I'm in love with this project!!! So simple...so easy! You can use Andy Warhol's early years as an advertising artist as your inspiration!! A simple line drawing using Sharpie.....and the color overlay using a mono-print technique. Just remember to cover the plexiglass with a clear liquid soap so that the liquid watercolor does not bead up.
Can you explain the monoprint process you used? I'm curious in particular how you got the colors where you wanted them on the bird. Please give details!
ReplyDeleteack must get more info! I want to use this method this week with some bike drawings....did you do the sharpie first and then the mono print? is this on watercolor paper do you soak it first...?any extra info would be so appreciated!
ReplyDelete@ Mrs. Art Teacher ...hope you check back to see my reply. I looked on your blog, but didn't see an e-mail address to write to. Anyways...
ReplyDeleteWith kids, you may want to have them pencil draw it first, then trace over it with Sharpie. We did not pre-soak the paper(though if you spritzed it with a spray bottle first, might not hurt). We used a thin layer of clear dish soap on the plexiglass...this prevents the liquid watercolor from beading up. You lay the drawing on top of the printing plate & press gently. We did not use brayers...though I'm sure that would not hurt. If you need any more info..just e-mail me!!!!
Thanks so much! geeze I need to get my email on my site...opps. I'll have my 8th graders experiment with using the brayer vs. brush before I have the 6th graders make the prints. Speaking of my 8th graders you were our inspiration artist for the watercolor landscapes we are doing right now. I'll make sure to post their landscapes when we are done.
ReplyDeleteI, too, am unsure of how to do the mono-print technique. Could you help please? This is great Mr. E! Thanks!!
ReplyDelete@Tyson and Megan - I answered much of up above...read through that response and see if you still need more info.
ReplyDeleteSorry, I'm kind of art incompetent... So I understand the original drawing part, but do you just use watercolor/acrylic paints and then put dish soap on a sheet of plexiglass then put it on top of the paint & paper?
ReplyDeleteput a thin coat of clear dish soap on top of the plexiglass. Then you apply the liquid watercolor on top of the soap(using a soft hair brush). Then you flip the picture on top of that drawing side down. If you do it the other way...the watercolor will run/drip off & make a mess. Then peal it back...and you have it.
ReplyDeleteAha! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteAwesome work! What grade did the mono prints?
ReplyDeleteThis was a teacher workshop!
