Day 2 of Abstract Expressionism

This is the second day the students worked on their abstract expressionist paintings. During the first class they used black, white, and the color of their choice (tempera).  They then were allowed to select a metallic acrylic to add into their work.  This week they had about 20 min. to "finish" their piece using at least one more color (acrylic). I think they turned out well.

BOX MURAL: THE OTHER SIDE

Found out the mural had to be turned in this weekend!!!  So we busted out the second side pretty quickly.  I wanted it to be similar to the first side, but have more of an unstructured/structured look.  So thankful for the students and teachers that joined in to make this project a reality.

Coil Pots: 2nd Grade

Every year I like to change things up a little with the coil pots.  I've done Canopic Jars out of them, used metallic paint, turned them into peacocks, black & neon colors, and now this year color mixing from a two color selection.  I really love the way they've turned out.  (once again..pink is a pain to photograph!)

More Clay Facades: 4th Grade

As I was grading...I came across some fun paint jobs on the clay facades.  I'm thinking I'll reinvent this project next year....just not thrilled with the majority of them(the ones pictured I do like).

More Clay Masks: 3rd Grade

This group of 3rd graders had some interesting ideas when painting their masks.  I love these!!  Great pattern/texture!  If you are an elementary art teacher...you realize that no lesson comes out the same..even if it is taught the same.

Painting at the Grove

My teachers have really come to love our painting nights at school!  I've been happy to witness some nervous new painters become confident experienced painters!!  We were creating Christmas inspired pieces(well...most).  Very thankful for my friend Michael O'Neil of M&M Painting for donating the wood boards we used to paint on(Michael also created the boards we used for the bottle cap mural last year...great friend...and supporter of the arts!!!).
