Mondrian: Kindergarten

Ms. Witt (my student teacher) wanted to introduce basic ruler skills to kindergarten.  She used an oldie but a good lesson:  MONDRIAN!  It is a great way to have students use rulers, be successful, and end with a beautiful piece of art.  (AND THEY LOVED IT!)

She started by talked to them about the uses of a ruler, how to hold a ruler still, and things to avoid when using a ruler.  They students then created a grid across their paper.  She used tempera cakes(love the color) for them to paint their work.  Once again, she went over the basic skills of painting....how to hold a brush, how to rinse the brush, how to "use" the brush appropriately. This lesson has so many great skills to review and reinforce!! This is a great time of the year to make sure your kinders have a good foundation in the skills you want to build upon in coming lessons...and in coming years.

Op Art: 4th Grade

This was a very simple way to do Op Art.  I'd like to pursue it more,
but it was a great start!
The students loved it, and to my surprise...really had the patience
 to complete such a project!!!

THE END IS NEAR!!!!!

No..I'm not talking about the missed rapture!  The end of school is near!!!!  We have a week & a half to go.  This week I'm handing back student art work and giving them a Finish Up Day.  I allow them time to finish work & I do a portfolio review with each child.  I had posted this lesson(see above pics) a couple weeks ago...but this was the 1st class that did the project. I had them work in colored pencil(but switched to marker for the other classes).  These 4 stood out from the rest.  I hope that the end of the year is going well for you all!!!

Stealin' from a Thief

You know how in this bloggie world..we see a cool project & we just gotta try it ourselves!!!  Well, one of my best friends, Janet Malone (http://msmalonesartroom.blogspot.com/2011/04/one-point-perspective.html) ...stole the lesson from Mrs. Knight's blog ( http://dolvinartknight.blogspot.com/2011/03/highlights-from-this-week.html )..and I decided to try it out with my students.  Mrs. Knight's were done at the 5th grade level & Janet's were done with 4th grade.  I decided to try it out with 3rd grade.  They didn't do too bad, but the other two teachers' work looks amazing!  Maybe you wanna give this lesson a try.  Everybody's doin' it! :) ha ha
