Sargent Art Fluorescent & Metallic Oil Pastels

Do you all use Fluorescent & Metallic Oil Pastels in your classroom? I purchased the Sargent Art brand version of these oil pastels.   Here are swatches of a few of the Fluorescent & all the Metallic(6 colors).

The Fluorescent works wonderfully on white/light paper, but I do not recommend it for dark.  The Metallic works well on both, but really pops on the black!  There are a ton of fun projects you can use these on.  I did not get a class set worth, but have enough to make "stations" for students to use on certain projects.   Would love to hear how you use these materials in your art room!

Sargent Paint Sticks

I have talked about the Sargent Paint Sticks in the past, but someone was recently asking me about them...so I thought I'd share again.  There are several brands out there that work "relatively" the same.  However, I have found the quality and price of the Sargent version to be better.  Now the neon and metallic paint sticks do not produce as solid/vibrant color (None of the other brands that have neon/metallic paint sticks are any better!).  They are wonderful for young artists & abstract art work.

Picasso Portraits With Sargent Paint Sticks

We are working on a unit of portraiture, and today learned about Picasso!
I had the students first draw lightly with pencil. We then discussed color, and how it can transform a work & how it impacts the mood/emotion of a picture.  We had recently used Sargent Art Paint Sticks on another project, and I thought it would be perfect for this lesson as well.  If you have not used paint sticks (there are several brands)....they are WONDERFUL!  I really do like Sargent's version (I've tried a few!).  The kids really enjoyed creating their portraits, and it was so fun to hear them giggle as the worked!  I may do another post of them....I still have two more classes.
If you have any questions about Paint Sticks....let me know!!

Incised Plate Printing With Paint Sticks

I will often use marker for incised plate printing with my younger students....with mixed results.
After trying the Sargent Solid Tempera Paint Sticks, I don't think I'll ever use markers for this again!

There are different brands out there (DO NOT USE THE DOLLAR GENERAL VERSION..TERRIBLE!)  of the paint sticks, but I'm a huge fan of Sargent!

(I did switch to blue from the original purple above!)

Representing Sargent Art at TAEA 2019!

This summer I was asked to represent Sargent Art at Tennessee Arts Academy.  I had so much fun & loved sharing the great products at Sargent Art with the teachers attending.  Well, they liked me enough to ask me to do it again at the Tennessee Art Education Association State Conference.  I am a major people person. I love being with art teachers.  I love great art products.  IT IS A WIN WIN WIN!!! ha ha  Here are some of the pictures from my adventures of representing Sargent at TAEA this past weekend!!

I had two tables this time!!
It gave teachers a ton of space to test out supplies.

Friday night we had a reception for our conference & Sargent had two tables for teachers to try products, work collaboratively, and make things!

I created two brains using Sculpt It!.  The teachers were allowed to use all the painting products & the marker products I had from Sargent to make them beautiful!  (Their glitter paint was one of the favorites!!)

(It was a western theme! ha ha)

We also used Sargent Lamination Glue to decoupage on the styrofoam head & canvases I brought along!  They then used acrylic paint, paint dabbers, and the paint sticks to add some more flair!

Construction Paper Crayons Review

One of my students who recently found my YouTube channel encouraged me to do a product review! He was excited to try the new Sargent Art Construction Paper Crayons out....but was wondering how they were different than the Crayola Construction Paper Crayons we had been using for several years.  So...here ya go!  I hope you find this helpful when you consider ordering construction paper crayons in the future.
