A Dino-Mite Art Show: 2nd Grade

Our annual K-4th Grade art show was suppose to take place March 26th.

I brought home all the art work to prep it for the show (when I still thought we'd get to return to school).  We would have had two more weeks to tweek/fix/finish student work, but because of a tornado that shut down schools & then COVID-19....we did not have that precious time. There are always possibilities that a student may not have a piece of art in their class grouping because of absences or not writing their name on their work.  All attempts were made to include one picture from each student.

Metro Nashville Online Student Art Show

Metro Nashville Public Schools usually has their annual Mayor's Art Show at the Frist Museum Every Spring.  Because of being out due to COVID-19, the did not happen event did not happen this year.  Our coordinator for visual art wanted to have "something".  She put out the call for student art work...either created during the school year or through online learning.  I brought home my entire K-4th art show to prepare before finding out that we'd not be returning.  I thought I'd share the images I submitted for the digital show.  If we are given a link to all the submissions I'll share it on here.  Our show was dinosaur themed (I'm so sad it won't be happening...art show is my craziest time of the year, but also my favorite!!).

4th Grade Dino Narrative Stop Motion: Ice Cream

This Stop Motion App video was created by one of yesterday's groups! They were extremely successful in telling a story. I'm so super proud of my amazing young artists!!!

Stop Motion: 4th Grade

As part of a grant our district was awarded for Art & Music...we received 3 iPads for our art room.  Technology has been hard to implement well in my classroom before because I only had a Fire to use.  I'm excited to try more projects that incorporate technology, and have a Tech Station set up in my classroom for student to utilize. We required as a part of this grant to have the students create using the Stop Motion app.  THEY LOVE IT!! My student teacher did this lesson with my 3rd graders.  The kids LOVED this project!! Even though this COULD be a lesson that yielded look-a-like/copy cat art.....the students really created unique works that expressed personal style & choice.  Ms. Witt started the lesson by looking at images of reptile eyes & artist renderings of dinosaur eyes. They discussed the parts of the eye & texture of the surrounding skin.  Students started by drawing the eye and scales. They then used tempera cakes to begin painting their projects.  This was a two week lesson(our classes are an hour in length).

SIDE NOTE:  I have a student that rarely gets into her art, but this time did not want to stop! She came back during her free time to finish it.  It is such a joy to find something that sparks the imagination, heart, and interest of a student! 

Dino School Pictures: 2nd Grade

In our ongoing dinosaur unit (in preparation for our dinosaur themed all school art show), second grade created dino school pictures. I may have them go back into them to add a bit more detail, but they're pretty cute after the first class time working on them! 

Collage Dinosaurs: 2nd Grade

After reviewing "all the things" in regard to collage & landscapes....my 2nd graders began creating their dinosaurs "on location".  We did the BIG STUFF on the first day of this project, and then made sure all the details were AMAZING on day two.  

Hatching Dino Eggs: 1st Grade

How cute are these hatching dinosaur eggs my first graders are creating?!?! We are using construction paper crayons...which are always a hit! I have both Crayola & Sargent brand construction paper crayons.  I prefer Sargent because the colors are "truer"...and Crayola is more pastel "ish" in color.  The concept/vocabulary I'm focusing on for this

 project is overlapping/layering. This was both in what they drew & how they colored(overlapping color makes it brighter!) They turned out super cute!
