Fish Tanks/Perspective

I've been talking about overlapping and showing "space" in your work with my second graders.  We created fish tanks that had a defined corner to create a bottom, side, and back to the tank.  I was not looking for mastery as this is a new concept to them.  I was just introducing the idea. We used watercolor pencils to finish the work.

YOU ARE GOING TO NOTICE IN SOME OF THE PICTURES THE VERTICAL LINE IS VERY CURVED.  THAT IS BECAUSE THE PAPER CURLED WHEN IT DRIED & I DIDN'T FLATTEN IT OUT BEFORE SNAPPING THE PICTURE! ha ha

1 Point Perspective Using Kleki

This week we worked on 1 Point Perspective using www.kleki.com !  I did this with my online students. I tend to get more work turned in using the kleki site, so whenever possible....we use it!!
It was interesting doing a tried and true paper, pencil, and ruler lesson. The kids really enjoyed it though.

Here is the video of my instruction!

Robot Blue Prints: 4th Grade

I had my 4th graders design a robot that would fulfill a need in their life.  It might make their bed, cook, do their homework, play....whatever!  We looked at blue prints and discussed the need to think things out completely before production begins.  They were asked to write a paragraph explaining the function & details of the robot, and why they made the choices they did.    They were required to draw a front, back, and side view of their creation.  It was challenging for some, but I really enjoyed helping them wrestle through the process.

Turtley Points of View/Perspective: 4th Grade

Mr. E & Turtles is like Peanut Butter & Jelly!  They just go together.  Over the years I've collected & have been gifted many turtles.  I passed out a class worth of stuffed turtles to my 4th graders and asked them to draw them from 4 different points of view/perspectives.  I had teacher examples on the board and did a demo so the students could see just what I meant for them to be doing.  They really turned out great.  I would have shown more, but many did not get a chance to finish coloring them.
If they do...I'll try to post them.
