So the title of this post should be longer, but I felt it was getting a bit ridiculous. Kindergarten Wax Resist Water Color Cubist Still Life. See what I mean! ha ha  These are going to be in the running for our Abstract All School Art Show this year!  (they get to pick from several projects)

Let me just say...these kiddos blow me away!

Picasso Scarecrows

I love doing Picasso Scarecrows in the fall. I don’t do holidays in my classroom because I do not wish for any child to be excluded because of their religious beliefs/practices. We will do leaves, pumpkins, and scarecrows.  With Dora Maar by Picasso as our inspiration, the students creat their wacky scarecrows. They are each so unique!!

Picasso Portraits With Sargent Paint Sticks

We are working on a unit of portraiture, and today learned about Picasso!
I had the students first draw lightly with pencil. We then discussed color, and how it can transform a work & how it impacts the mood/emotion of a picture.  We had recently used Sargent Art Paint Sticks on another project, and I thought it would be perfect for this lesson as well.  If you have not used paint sticks (there are several brands)....they are WONDERFUL!  I really do like Sargent's version (I've tried a few!).  The kids really enjoyed creating their portraits, and it was so fun to hear them giggle as the worked!  I may do another post of them....I still have two more classes.
If you have any questions about Paint Sticks....let me know!!

Picasso Inspired Musical Instrument Art

Our music teacher had to be out one day after a minor accident and wasn't able to pull sub stuff together for her in person and online classes.  I volunteered to do a music related art project video for her online students.  They really seemed to enjoy it.  Above is my teacher example & below is my video.

Picasso at Monthaven Art Center

Do you ever feel like Picasso is looking at you with a bit of disdain?
What did I ever do to him!?!?!

It is fall break in Metro Nashville Public Schools.  My friend Julie and I made our way up to Hendersonville,TN to Monthaven Art & Culture Center to see Picasso: Master in Clay.  Now I've lived in middle TN since 1997, but I've never been to or even heard of Monthaven until this exhibit came.  WHAT A DELIGHTFUL DISCOVERY!!! This will not be my last visit.  They do not charge to enter, but do take a donation.  For a $10 donation, you receive a book that has all the images and information from the show (BEYOND WORTH IT!!!).

I loved these plate faces!!!

The bird vessels were beautiful!

Now I LOVED the Picasso clay pieces, but I think I enjoyed the paintings by Marcel Mouly even more!  You can see the influence of Picasso & Matisse in his work, but he brings something distinctly different to his paintings.... COLOR!!!!  His colors seem very unlike those of Picasso.  Take a look & let me know what you think!
