The Language of Flowers

I'm sharing with you a new "coloring book" created by an art teacher friend of mine.  She has been painting a series of flowers for years, and has now turned it into a coloring book! I love being able to support my friends in their ventures.

After a rough day at school yesterday...I was so excited to have something new to help take my mind of things! I used alcohol markers.  As with any coloring book...it is best to keep a piece of cardstock or chipboard behind the page you are working.  I really enjoyed the images because they are not "standard" adult coloring book type pages.  Most adult coloring books are mandalas or stained glass inspired.  This is a book of flowers/plants with an artistic flair.

I've included the link below if you are interested!

Art With Mr. E: The Pod Cast

I've been toying around with the idea of starting a pod cast for awhile.  I'm not sure if it is the right medium for me or not?  So...I thought I'd try it & see.  If it doesn't feel right....then I'll just not do any more.  I've created one so far dealing with Self Care. This is geared for teachers mostly, but whoever wants to listen is fine.

My Award/Trophy

Today my school presented me with a trophy/award for being Teacher of the Year. It is etched glass, and has a turtle at the center! If ya don't know...turtles are my favorite animal. Being teacher of the year does mean a great deal to me, but trophies & awards are just objects that collect dust. This one however...will not! ha ha I love that they took the time to add something personal. It isn't just a brass or marble apple. It is not a generic trophy. It is thoughtful/meaningful..and I'll treasure it always!

So thankful to be at a school that supports & recognizes the arts!

Nashville Art Educator's Exhibition

Tonight is the opening reception for our district's Art Educator's Exhibition. Last year marked the revival of this tradition!  We had them years ago, but because of venue issues....it eventually came to an end.  I'm so glad it will become an annual event once more for our district.  I feel as art educators we need the opportunity & challenge of  such an event to motivate us to create our own art. It is so easy to get out of the habit when you are creating all day with your students...and understandably tired at the end of the day.  I'll make sure to take a ton off pictures tonight to share with you all!!

Kandinsky Shoes

So I wanted to have a bit of fun with Artober Nashville: Kandinsky Inspired.  I was going to make a "vest" that was Kandinsky Inspired...but haven't finished it yet.  The shoes weren't even on the radar...until I found a $5 pair of canvas shoes that actually fit my big feet!!!!  So last night during the big storm that was rolling through....
I was watching the second Thor...and making these!!

I tried to take images from different parts of Kandinsky's career to show the diversity of his work.  Some are pretty literal takes on his work...and some have been "modified".

I used Crayola Fabric Markers, Sharpie Fabric Markers, and regular Sharpies. It needs heat set...which I'll do a combination of iron & drier.  Since I just made them...I'm not sure how long it will last...how much it will fade...or if it will bleed through onto my socks.
I'll keep ya posted on that!!!

If I get the vest done...I'll post some pictures!

PD Day Projects: "The Pout Pout Fish" Inspired Craft Wars

Have you seen Craft Wars?!?  I really want to be on it!!  We have decided to do a one hour Craft Wars at the start of each PD Day(we have 5 this year).  We have random supplies laid out...and give the teachers a few objectives that must be accomplished in their creation!  My wife actually gave me this idea!! The teachers that attended our PD Day on Assessment/Grading yesterday created these beautiful works while listening to The Pout Pout Fish.  My friend Janet and I were leading the workshop..and we had to find a way to work that into the day!!! ha ha  Every elementary art teacher should have this book in their classroom library! I did a dramatic reading(really..just how I normally read..ha) while teachers were getting underway with their project.  We only told them that their must be a fish...there must be an environment...and craftsmanship must be excellent!  I know that the images you are looking at do not look like The Pout-Pout Fish.  HOWEVER...I am not really a fan of copying images from other artists.  So this is inspired...not a copy.   This work was later a part of the grading/assessment portion of our day.

An Art Gang Birthday Party

Tonight we had a birthday party for Janet (Ms. Malone from http://msmalonesartroom.blogspot.com ).  She wanted to have an art making party (and everyone's signature party food).  This was not just the "Art Gang", but our spouses & kiddos too!  She wanted everyone to participate.....and they did!!!!  We really had a great time(well..maybe not Eli...you will see him with his "Aunt" Janet...not really into it).  Janet brought the canvas & paints/supplies.  Everyone was encouraged to bring their own supplies too.  I'll try to get a better picture after it dries & I can prop it up in better lighting!!!  What a wonderful way to kick off our spring break!!!
