Staff Fall Paint Night

It has been 2 years since we had a faculty/staff paint night at my school.  I had cellulitis, we had a tornado, a global pandemic...lots of things kind of got in the way!  One thing I knew...we had to bring paint night back!!! It is such a wonderful time for faculty/staff to enjoy one another's company, decompress, laugh, and a whole lot more!!  I have my teacher donate a couple dollars and I furnish all all the paint and canvases.  I create stencils (this year with the help of my practicum students) that allow those a little less confident with their drawing skills to feel successful.  I encourage everyone to do their own thing, and I float around the room and help them if they run into trouble.  We have hair drier stations set up so that they can do a quick dry to get to their next layer.  If you aren't doing paint nights at your school...think about giving it a try!  It really allows others to see you as an art educator...in a new light!

Ms. King was so proud of her beautiful painting!! She has always come to the paint nights but struggled to finish her work and get it to a place that she really loved.  This was her paint night though...she finished her work and it was wonderful!!!

Tacky Sweater Day 2013

Does your school have Tacky Christmas Sweater Day?  We started about 3 yrs ago...and it keeps getting bigger & better!  The kids LOVE IT!  The teachers LOVE IT!  It is totally a win/win activity!!
If you aren't doing it yet...step up & take the lead.  I, being a super sized individual, made my own "Tacky Christmas Sweater".  I started it last year, and have decided I'll add something each year to tack on some tacky!!!  Today I has several teacher approach me about having an after school MAKE-A-TACKY-SWEATER session next year.  I LOVE THE IDEA!  How much fun!!  Everyone will bring their "base"...be it a sweater, vest, tie...whatever.  They will also bring some items to share (felt, fabric, buttons, do-dads).  Glue guns will fly...sparkles will shine...fun will be had!

Teacher After School Art

I noticed many of our teacher getting stressed over the past couple weeks....
so I decided tooffer an after school art session.  One of the teachers
had asked me if they could do the same project that my 3rd graders
had done (the Chagall / Van Gogh hybrid).  I only had 4 teachers come,
but they had a great time...and that is what matters!!!

Painting at the Grove

My teachers have really come to love our painting nights at school!  I've been happy to witness some nervous new painters become confident experienced painters!!  We were creating Christmas inspired pieces(well...most).  Very thankful for my friend Michael O'Neil of M&M Painting for donating the wood boards we used to paint on(Michael also created the boards we used for the bottle cap mural last year...great friend...and supporter of the arts!!!).

TGE Teacher Art Night

The teachers wanted to do flowers again...some had missed the tulips night...others missed the sunflowers night....so we just did whatever flower they wanted kind of night.  The variety was AMAZING!  I had a Power Point with many examples, and was there to help anyone that needed it.  I "charged" $2 to cover the cost of canvas(it was 2 for $3.99 at Hobby Lobby 8x10).

Everyone was working so hard, and many taking risks now that this was their 3rd time painting & they were gaining some confidence in their painting!
