Crayola’s Colors of the World Colored Pencils

OH MY!!!!!!!!

My wife called me from Wal-Mart, and told me she found Crayola Colors of the World Colored Pencils for only $1.  YES...$1!  She asked me how many I wanted.  ALL OF THEM! ha ha I'm not sure if your local Wal-Mart will have them for that price, but it is worth a look.  

 

Pile of Turtles: 2nd Grade Still Life

Last week my students created a still life that was made of several objects that they arranged with their table partner.  This week the students had one stuffed turtle to draw from.  They had to make a minimum of five turtles that overlapped & filled up their page.  We also discussed "value" using different amounts of pressure. Since I was just introducing the concept of value...there was much grace in how they applied the new information!  The turtle was light green & dark green.  So I told the students that they could make the turtle what ever color they wanted as long as they stuck with the lighter value for the body & darker for the shell as it was in the original.

  had a Power Rangers vibe to me?!? ha ha

Line Design: 4th Grade

I've not done this project for a couple years.  It really is the post/project that blew up my blog...and still much traffic comes to Art With Mr. E because of it.  I'll include the links to the explanation for it if you are interested!  I have the basic directions, do's & don'ts, and examples of different media.

Self Portraits: 3rd Grade

        

I have a theory about self portraits...you can appreciate them if you do not know the person represented, but you are not impacted by them unless you do!  I hope you appreciate my 3rd graders self portraits. I can't begin to tell you how these truly reflect the artist...and how some of the quirky ways they drew actually are dead on representations/characteristics!!!!  Oh these make me smile!!!!  I love my job...and I love kid artists!!!!!

        

        

Amazing Kindergarten Pattern

        

I had several good pattern pictures from my kindergarten, but this one really was AMAZING!  I was reviewing patterns...and introducing colored pencils to my students in this project. 

Op Art: 4th Grade

Ms. Sanford, my SUPER student teacher, did an amazing job on this Op Art project! It is a great project for introducing point perspective, shading, reflection...and other art concepts.  If you haven't done this with your student yet...GO FOR IT!

The last class of the day before Christmas Parties start....WHAT DO YOU DO???

Well, I decided I'd do a full lesson with them & pray they'd stay focused enough to complete it!! 

!!!!!!!!AND THEY DID!!!!!!!!!!

I talked to the students about form, and how to create the illusion that something was 3-D when it was actually just flat.  We looked at the shape, how we colored, and shading.  I was excited to see them really get into it!   These are the ones that actually finished.  A few others were really good starts...but not far enough along to see if they were getting the shading or not.  

Turtley Points of View/Perspective: 4th Grade

Mr. E & Turtles is like Peanut Butter & Jelly!  They just go together.  Over the years I've collected & have been gifted many turtles.  I passed out a class worth of stuffed turtles to my 4th graders and asked them to draw them from 4 different points of view/perspectives.  I had teacher examples on the board and did a demo so the students could see just what I meant for them to be doing.  They really turned out great.  I would have shown more, but many did not get a chance to finish coloring them.

Second Day of Two Day Inservice

You want to see how different art teachers are...take a look at the projects they did today during our second day of inservice!!!  We had 50+ art teachers...with the group split in half.  Both days the groups did studio projects, did reverse unit planning(off of the studio project...placing it in the new curriculum), as well as worked on another unit for another grade level off of the new curriculum.  I believe most teacher enjoyed the 2 days & what we had planned.  However, it was what was not on our schedule that made the time so wonderful & rich!  You get that many art teachers together(which happens too little)...and the ideas that start flying around are enough to make your head spin! 

We are going to start meeting once a 9 weeks in a general session, try to have professional development days at least once a 9 weeks, and encouraging using some of our 5 professional days given us by the district to visit other art teachers!!  So hopefully...connecting will continue throughout the year!!!
