Red Grooms Inspired Collage Taxi: 2nd Grade

This year our district is focusing on Red Grooms for the Nashville Artober Celebration.  He is a home town ...and the kids love his work(the ones that we can actually show children!).  I'm having my 2nd graders create a collage taxi this week.  Next week we'll take their collage taxi and use markers to add to it...as well as do two profile drawings to place in the taxi windows.  In my mind this project is going to be a lot of fun...stay tuned to see if it actually works out.

  2. Cool lesson. Makes me think of my cars w/CD wheels that we did for a Rizzi lesson and another for Matisse-mobiles a couple of years ago.

I have a great Red Grooms book that I found at a discount sale but I never shared it at school, even though I intended to, because I was worried some images were less than kid-friendly.

  3. Did you do a directed drawing lesson so that the kiddos could make the car body? They don't look identical but they all look so good!

  4. Pat...I did demo how to do it & had an example on the board. It was an ELL class though...and they usually follow pretty close to what the teacher does. I emphasized the need for the windows to be large on the taxi..because we'll making people in profile to put inside them.
