NIVAE In-Service Day

NIVAE is the Nashville Institute for the Visual Arts Education, a group that was founded many years ago in Nashville to promote teaching meaning in art making & the Big Idea style of lesson/unit creation.  The past couple years the group went inactive, but with the upcoming retirement of our district arts director...she wanted to get it going again.

Today we met with a variety of activities on the schedule.  We created lists of critical thinking questions, looked at lessons to see where we could pump them up to fit the new evaluation system, and an interactive lesson using Legos!!!  Here are pictures of the Lego experience!

This is Janet & I's Lego building.
Janet is Ms. Malone from http://msmalonesartroom.blogspot.com .  If you don't follower her blog...ya need to!  Go check it out.
These are the "rules" for creating the Lego building.  It was amazing how many teacher did not follow the directions.  I'm kind of legalistic with such things! ha ha  My OCD coming out, I'm sure!

  1. I would love to know what kind of critical thinking questions you came up with and how you pumped up your lessons. Our district is also being evaluated differently. Love your blog. Have used many of your ideas.
