So we had some amazing choices of studio classes to select from....I really had trouble deciding! On Friday I had a 5 hour class on fabric collage. The main thing in this is that you place tulle over the image and sew that down. It keeps everything in place. Not really something I'll be able to do with my students, but sure did have fun!!! I'm thinkin' of breakin' out my sewing machine and continuing on with this. These examples are from several of the teachers in the class with me. Some AMAZING pieces.
One single fabric collage "class" at an art therapy conference fall of 1996 got me started on the path that I am still on as a fiber artist! Love the pictures! SO glad, and a bit jealous, you had a great weekend! Can't wait to see you trophy!
ReplyDeleteAs a fiber artist I am really glad to see that the conference exposed so many more people to a medium that is often overlooked!
ReplyDeleteI used Modge Podge to do something similiar with 2nd graders during a workshop. Their sky had to be a solid fabric and then they did three hills with different patterned fabric. Finally they added clouds and trees(just triangles for simplicity and lack of scissor skills). The trees were added to talk about how things get smaller as they get farther away. Btw, I love your blog. You've helped this first year teacher out a lot!
ReplyDeleteLove that you tried this often over-looked medium!
ReplyDeleteHere's a tip I learned from a workshop: If you iron fusible interface (from fabric stores) onto the back of the fabrics the students will use, then they can draw on the paper backing, cut on their lines, then peel off the backing and after arranging their shapes on cardboard, you can press an iron to the image and it sticks down!
