I had so many great student examples I'm going to break this up into two posts. They were asked to create a "color story". They could use 4 regular yarns & one specialty. Some decided they would rather just use 5 regular, and that was fine with me if they could justify why. I use prenotched looms, but make students warp their own. They are responsible for going to the yarn boxes, selecting & cutting their own yarn. I love this lesson, and am always amazed how some students that struggle with drawing/painting find great success in weaving! Stay tuned for the rest of the student examples!!
Ok, seriously this made me cry! They are so amazing! I want to print them and make them into notecards for my own personal use! How did they look off loom? And how did you present them to take home? I love that you weave with your classes, I'd like to take some credit for putting that in your head.
ReplyDeleteThese are SUPER! I love how the specialty yarns add interest and texture! Thanks for sharing -- looking forward to part 2!
ReplyDeleteWhat type of yarn did you use? How big are these. I did this with my 4th graders too... I had donate yarn which was a hodgepodge of fluffy, textured yarn, but I like the clean look of yours! Free is free though.
ReplyDeleteThese are gorgeous! I did weaving with my 4th graders too. I had tons of donated yarn... a hodgepodge of textures and colors. I like how clean yours looks. OUrs were a bit more random! Free is free though. What size loom did you use?
ReplyDeleteOk..to be fair..I have some awesome yarn! I wrote a grant a couple years ago & was able to buy around $300 of yarn from Wal-Mart..& I purchased the specialty yarn at Big Lots ($1 for a skeen). So I'm stocked up for several years worth of weaving. The looms are 6in by 9in I believe?
ReplyDeleteI love these - they're fantastic. Makes me want to try this some time soon.
