Every year I like to change things up a little with the coil pots. I've done Canopic Jars out of them, used metallic paint, turned them into peacocks, black & neon colors, and now this year color mixing from a two color selection. I really love the way they've turned out. (once again..pink is a pain to photograph!)

Teacher Appreciation Week: STAPLES
By their account...it was suppose to be $31 worth of products(though I would never purchase these items for that price!?!??!). However..Staples is having Teacher Appreciation Week! If you have their Teacher Reward Card...you were sent an e-mail with the items they have for a penny(limit 5 of each)! However..you have to buy at least $5 in other product(s). I thought the Neon Expo Markers would be fun..and they were on sale for exactly $5. The guy rings me up...looks at my receipt...and says..."WOW..THAT'S AMAZING!" $2.96!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pretty happy with that. Not sure how they come up with that price...but who am I to question a GREAT deal!

YOU MATTER!
You know that right? YOU MATTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not what you do, not the numbers you get on your evaluation, not how good your skills are in the classroom, not your artistic ability.........
YOU MATTER!
Kids don't need the coolest...greatest...most fabulous...award winning...cutting edge teacher...they need you. They need you to care. They need you to be present. They need you to be a consistent adult in their life.
I believe in the power of our profession to change the future!!!!
Happy Teacher Appreciation Week...if you haven't heard it from those around you...please know that in Nashville,TN there is someone that thinks you are awesome & is thankful you are a co-laborer in THE greatest profession!!!
Stolen Wave: 4th Grade
Thanks Andrea... Dream. Pray. Create...for allowing me to steal your wave lesson! I was so excited to see this project on her site...I knew I HAD to try it ASAP!!!! I'm not sure why I had never considered doing such a subject matter in the past? Anyways!?!?! This is what some of my 4th graders produced today. The results were very mixed, but the kids enjoyed it. I told them to pick any color family they wanted. One student did browns, blacks, and whites...and told me he was making a wave of root beer! ha ha

Wonderful Weavings: 4th Grade
OH HOW I LOVE WEAVING!!!
My 4th graders are doing a great job of weaving this year! This class has struggled more than most, yet I still was able to pull out these 6 beautiful examples!
I have my students come up with a "color story" for their weaving. They are allowed to select 4 "regular" colors of yarn, and 1 "specialty" yarn to tell their story. I purchase my specialty yarn at Big Lots....I know odd place!!?!? However, they usually have an every changing selection of odd yarns that my students LOVE(and for only a dollar a skein!!!). I also have a class set of hair picks to use as rakes. I know that some of this info is repeat, but some new people to Art With Mr. E may not have seen past posts.

Colossal Coaster World: Decorations
Hello VBS friends....I wanted to show you a project I was working on. I'm creating room decorations for our kick-off/training this weekend! The track is made from black poster board & sun visor I bought from The Dollar Tree. I'm going to have the tracks going around the room on the wall...and then ending with the track coming out of the ceiling with the coaster(hung by fishing line from the drop ceiling). In my mind..it is going to be fun, but we'll see when I actually start putting it up! ha ha I'm going to do another room as well in a different "style". The bright green poster board is going to be part of that...you'll have to wait and see(mainly because I'm still working on it! ha ha)

Franz Marc Inspired: 3rd Grade
During our shortened testing schedule...I've had my 3rd graders working on their Franz Marc inspired paintings. I limited them to 2 colors each time...and allowed them to share with their neighbors. I'm not sure if I'll give them one last time to clean up areas of their paintings. They are pretty fun..and the kids have been very proud of their work.
You Gotta Watch This!!!!
I've seen some of this on a couple other awesome blogs...but wanted to make sure
you all had a chance to see this for yourself!

What Does 15yrs of Service Look Like?
A couple weeks ago they announced the "Years of Service" awards. 5, 10, 15....you get the picture. Though I've worked for MNPS since 1997....I subbed a year, and they do not count that....so I'm at year 15. What do you get for 15 yrs of service?!?! Yep...a mug. I'm not going to knock the mug...I was actually looking forward to it. HOWEVER...they were on back order. When it came in today....they sent it in a brown paper sack...with sharpie marker scratched on the outside with our school route number. Inside the mugs were wrapped in torn paper bags. CLASSY! :) ha ha
