1st Grade Art Show Work

I did a couple different lessons with first grade. The flowers are an attempt to have my students understand the difference between 2-d & 3-d. We looked at different examples of 3-d reliefs. I feel they did a bang up job on the flower pieces!! The other is based off of Egyptian Curtain by Henri Matisse. The students used a piece of textile print paper & construction paper crayons on black construction paper. Some are truly amazing!!

Kindergarten Art Show Work

I teach 5 classes of Kindergarten. Some of the pictures didn't turn out all all that great, so here are just a few. I had introduced this lesson a few weeks ago to you all. However, seeing the paintings all together is something else!! I mounted the work on black as not to take away from the color of their paintings. I had many parents say they planned on framing their child's work.

TGE Annual Art Show 2010

Every year we have an all school art show at Tulip Grove. Every student has one piece of art in the show. This is the first year that TGE has only one art teacher...ME! So, it was a bit more overwhelming than normal (and there is the whole finishing my masters, married, 1 yr old baby, building a house..etc..etc..HA HA). The theme I picked was How Artists See. The students created worked based off an artist or artistic style. This is just an overview, and I'll add more photos over the next couple days.

Great Purchase

I always try to have my students that have special needs do the project that the class is working on (with modifications). However, an hour is a long time for them to stay focused & not distroy the work they are doing. So after about a half hour, I'll take the work from the special needs students, and give them the Mega Blocks to build with. THEY LOVE THEM!!!! The structures they've built are pretty amazing. I found these Mega Bloks at Wal-Mart.

Art Show 2010 - HOW ARTISTS SEE

!!!!!!!!COMING SOON!!!!!!!
Every year I pick a theme for our school wide art show. This year it is HOW ARTISTS SEE. I have this great series of books that inspired the idea. I can't say that I pulled all my ideas from the books (though I probably could have), but I liked the concept so much. It was open enough to have a nice variety of projects! As you walk into the art show I will have the inspiration pieces & artist/style information so parents & visitors will have some background knowledge to what they'll be seeing.

3-D RELIEF FLOWERS - 1st Grade

In an attempt to teach 3-D Relief and layering....this project was born. Some turned out amazing...and the others....I will not be showing you!!! HA HA Over all the kids did a great job though. They enjoyed making things "POP OUT AT YA!"

A Frog in the Bog

This week I read A Frog in the Bog by Karma Wilson to my Kindergarten classes. They LOVE this story. It takes on a song like quality, and with the counting aspect...the students are totally engaged during story time. At this point in the year, I'm trying to talk to my kindergarten students about details, craftsmanship, and taking a work of art all the way to completion. A couple of the student did not have time to finish, but I wanted to show their work anyways. I was so pleased how the frogs took on their own little personalities!!!

a project in process

This project was another attempt to loosen up after doing point perspective. In my mind it was much cooler. Isn't it funny how that works out that way sometimes?!?! However, all is not lost. I believe I'll take this project a bit farther. I think it will turn into a mixed media project that has more of a Blips & Ifs or NY Waterfront feel by Stuart Davis.

Recycle/Found Objects Garden

Kindergarten was in a flower state of mind after the O'Keeffe projects..so on with that theme. I had someone donate a ton of green ribbon(not sure why anyone would be in possession of that much green ribbon to begin with...but hey...I'll take it!!!), another person donated med. bottle tabs(the big circle part of the flower), and someone else had given me bags of beads and bobbles. It was a bit out of the ordinary for my students(I usually push drawing, painting, and collage at the kindergarten level), but they LOVED IT!!! The beads bouncing everywhere was a bit unnerving, but worth it in the end.

YUMMY POP ART

Ms. Luquire did a Pop Art lesson with our second grade classes. She used Andy Warhol has her inspiration. The first class time the students watched DROPPING IN ON....Andy Warhol(If you do not know this series...check it out!!! I love it! They have books and videos). The students then did their sketch & some started incising their plates for printing. During the next class time students completed incising their plates. They also cut two pieces of paper in half and taped them back together. This added a bit more color to their prints! Ms. Luquire worked with 6 students at a time at printing stations while the rest of the students worked on another project.
