    1. I am TOO! Glad to hear I'm not the only OCD art teacher! My room is clean, but we do art! I think it is so important to teach students how to keep their space/supplies clean as well.

    2. I didn't know others like you existed. lol. I always thought I wasn't a 'real' art teacher because I'm super organized and like to have my art room a certain way (neat and clean!) and teach my kids how to maintain it. I've only ever visited super messy art rooms in my time.

    3. I'm not as organized as I was back when this post was made. MY ROOM IS...but my supply closet is a hot mess! ha ha I have three kids that are involved in dance, soccer, dance....I can't spend as much time as I used to.

    4. The current state of the room lacks the characteristics expected in an art space. The absence of student artwork, posters displaying notable works, canvas creations, shading or color charts, easels, and murals on the walls diminishes the ambiance. While appreciating organization, incorporating visible art supplies can enhance the room’s atmosphere. Creating an art room that exudes creativity entails showcasing supplies, student work, great masters works and quotes making it distinct from a generic space. You would not to want to walk into a gym where all exercise equipment is neatly stored away. You are supposed to be the most creative person in the school and your room should reflect that.

    5. What a narrow minded perspective of "creativity' and what a studio space should look like. There is this amazing thing called technology that allows me to display artists work, artistic posters, and other important information instead of having visual clutter being a distraction. Student work is proudly displayed in the halls of my school where kids can see their work daily instead of the only once a week they would see it if it was displayed in my classroom. You can do what you like in your space and I will do what I like in mine. It takes all kinds of artists and art teachers...if you have been to a museum you might see that we are all different.

  4. I love your room! It is so unique and totally you (not that I know you:) I like your homey bookshelf. What's on the bottom of your chairs? I'm always looking for a solution to the chair scuffs and screeching. Last year I bought a ton of little chair sticky felt things which was a lot of $. I'm so curious how you did that?

  5. What a nice room!! I love the set up of your tables and it looks like a great solution for my room. I've been struggling with my table set up since I received my Promethean board. I'm with you on being neat and orderly...can't function if things are out of place too much. Have a great year!

  7. What did you put on the bottom of the chair legs?? I've used tennis balls before but they come off...any luck with what you use?????

  8. You have a beautiful and well-organized classroom! As another OCD personality type, I can relate to the constant need for order! I think, in the long run, it helps the students as well, though. I also love the cozy bookshelf corner.

  10. SpongeBobLover...it is felt tied on with rubberbands! I'm going to do a post later in the week on it..because a lot of people have been asking.

  11. OMGosh I love your classroom. You are so creative with all of your bulletin boards and borders. Very inspiring!

  12. Are those tennis balls on the bottom of the chairs?

  13. Kim, I use felt on the bottom of my chairs. It is doubled over and rubber banded on. Works like a dream.

  14. I tried the rubber bands and felt. they keep falling off... is there a trick?

    ReplyDelete
  15. @ Anonymous ... I double the felt over...and use the very thick rubber bands. I usually triple the rubberbands when wrapping them around the leg.

  16. What a great idea with the felt! I am moving building and my new room has no carpet. I was very disappointed because I know how noisy the chairs can be on the tile. I am so glad that I found your post. Thanks for the great idea.

  17. Wow! I have the same set up. I did it like this out of necessity. Last year when I was 6 months pregnant I had to go to the OB because of some issues. They basically said I was over doing it, I'm no spring chicken, it was my 3rd child and I'd been teaching for 14 years, at the time. But, my table design is very similar. I used a horseshoe table in the center and surrounded it with the larger C shape with connected tables. It allowed me to use a rolling chair and scoot to the kids needing assistance. I loved it so much I kept it that way this year as well, minus the rolling chair, lol!

  19. I am so glad I found your website, this will help me so much with ideas to incorporate art in my own classroom. Even though you did not say the town that you grew up in, I remember you dressed as the "phantom" at River High. Am I right?.......Annette

    1. James, they are actually all green! :) The art teacher before me painted them the year before he left...and I've done everything I can to maintain them over the past 10 years I've been in the room. I don't want the district to try to repaint them!!!!!!!! ha ha
