Cheekwood Harvest Scarecrow

This is the 6th year I've participated in the scarecrows at Cheekwood.  The theme this year was Story Book Characters.  I LOVED THIS THEME SO MUCH!  It was hard to choose.  Even though I moved to middle, I have crates and crates of kids books.  I can't part with them.

I chose The Pout Pout Fish (of course!).  It didn't turn out exactly like I was imagining, but it is fun & recognizable. I hope all the visitors get a smile from this funny fish.

Here are are all the scarecrows I've created over the years!!

Cheekwood Harvest Scarecrow

This year's theme for the Cheekwood Harvest Scarecrows was Creepy Cute. Several of my students and I created Vincent Van Gogh-st.  I found a sheet & hat at Goodwill,  solar lights at Dollar General, and sunflowers at Dollar Tree (Cheekwood asked if would include a solar light feature with our scarecrows.)

He is front and center as you first get on the scarecrow trail!!

I'm pretty proud of him.  I think he turned out super cute.

TGE Scarecrow at Cheekwood: Lady Rosinfair

Every year Cheekwood Gardens has their Cheekwood Harvest festival and invites area schools & organizations to create scarecrows to go along their garden pathway.  This year the theme was botanicals grown at the gardens.  I selected the Rosinweed.  Imagine a very tall yellow daisy type flower (I had not heard of it before?!?).  Last year was my first year to participate...and I learned a lot through my mistakes.  It will be up till the first of Nov.  Scroll down to read the amazing story my 2nd graders came up with.

Lady Rosinfair  (inspired by the Rosinweed)

Lady Rosinfair came to life when a magical princess longed for a friend cast a spell on her favorite flower. They danced together as the breezes blew, shared secrets in the sunlight, and played together in the rain.  (based on ideas from second graders at TGE)

Scarecrows At Cheekwood: Nevelson

Cheekwood's annual scarecrow display is now up!!  If you are in the Nashville area...stop by and check them out. I'm hoping it lasts.  We've been getting a lot of rain in Middle TN, and it seems like that might continue for a few days.  Though I painted it, tapped it, glued it, and top coated it with quality product...at the core it is still cardboard! The other one beside mine is my best bud's scarecrow. We decided to be inspired by the same artist (Nevelson), and are playing tug-of-war.

Here is what we contributed to the event!
