I am not a calm, carefree, happy hippy type artist/art teacher. That is a stereotype of many, but is true of very few. I am a Type A personality, control freak, worrier, and unable to shut my brain off. One of the reasons that I'm such a creative person is that my mind never stops. Though this can lead to an amazing amount of ideas....it can also be exhausting. Imagine thinking through all the possibility, how each choice impacts other parts of your work or how it is perceived, out comes of those possibilities, and possible comments and questions that might arise from the different scenarios. Sometimes I wish I could find rest from the never ending hamster wheel that is my brain.
Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge. Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge. Psalm 62: 5-8
Are you tired? Exhausted? It seems that our world has everyone running a millions miles per hour in a million different directions. Constantly being busy (no matter how good the things are we are busy with) has led us to becoming disconnected from our family, friends, and community. Though we may be running from place to place with our families or friends in our community...we do not have the time to stop and appreciate any of it. Our fear of missing out on something has caused us to miss out on the most important things. The words of Psalm 62:5-8 can feel a bit disconnected from the world we live in today. What does it mean for us to rest in God? Do we even know how to rest anymore? How does it make you feel to know that God is our fortress, our rock, and our refuge? What does that mean to you? Can we slow ourselves down enough to know God in that way? When the challenging times come in our life, will we know how to find rest in God...and truly experience him as our fortress, rock and refuge?
