All School Art Show 2026

Moving to a new school, I had to rethink how I approach things for the art show.  The space is extremely different than my previous school.  The hallways have a ton of murals they had professionally made (I was not willing to put tape/adhesive on them!!)  The cafeteria also has several murals, and a wall of windows.  I decided if I attached the art to butcher paper that I could cover the windows.  Not an ideal situation, but you work with what you have!!  Our school theme was growing, and I ran with that for several lessons in each grade level.  The students were able to select their best work from those lessons.  If you have followed me for awhile, you will notice this looks very different!!  The previous two years there was a sub (non-art person) in the position, and the ten years prior were with an art teacher that only did paper and pencil work. It was a challenge, but I really feel like the students grew in amazing ways during the year.

Still Life Paintings

Still life paintings are one of my favorite things to teach.  I love to watch students wrestle with perspective and find success!  Plus, painting always brings student buy in on a lesson!!

Neon Dinosaurs: 3rd Grade

Neon tempera paint is magic!!!!

Honestly, totally worth the cost.  The students worked so hard and were completely into it!

Spring Time Gnome Village Mural

Moving into spring, the students created a gnome village.  They had so much fun creating gnomes, mushroom houses, and other things to make this work feel complete.

Emotion Flowers: Collage

I thought these turned out so cute! The kids loved making them and felt successful. I had  examples of eyes & mouths showing a variety of emotions. I feel now more than ever that collage is an important lesson to teach and reteach to improve eye/hand coordination.& dexterity.

From Winter Wonderland to Gnome Village!

As spring arrived in Middle TN, my students created a new collaborative board. This time we made a Gnome Village!  Each class made different parts for the board. It is so fun watching them find the things that they created.

#turkeyaday25: Review

I've been doing #turkeyaday for some time now.  It is fun for me to come up with different ways to approach it each year.  It also keeps me being creative & creating in my life outside of teaching art.

This year I combined two ideas....Disney Bounding & Squishmallow Turkeys

Here are the turkey's I created during Nov.

How many can you guess?

(ps... The way Blogger uploads photos now...they may not be in order. I don't have the bandwidth to reorganize them.)
