As I've said before, I do not tend to glaze. Each class had a class color (black, green, red, brown, & grey were the different classes), as well as a choice between copper, gold, and silver. We discussed bold geometric patterns for the design. The kids were thrilled, and I'm happy with the results. I like to change it up a bit each year, and I'm already dreaming of what to do to the coil pots next year!

Saint James School: Art Show
I have been blessed to "meet" many people through Art With Mr. E. I am constantly encouraged by the e-mails I receive from so many of you asking questions, sharing personal experiences, or just a quick thank you from something I've posted. Kara from St. James school in Manchester, CT has gone out of her way to encourage me....and when she said she was getting ready to have her school art show...I volunteered to show off some of her pictures. Not only to say thank you for the kind words, but also to encourage her to get her own blog going!!! So all you bloggie friends out there...please comment on her pictures & maybe encourage her to start her own blog!!
THE ART WORK HERE IS NOT FROM ART WITH MR. E.
THE IMAGES HERE ARE FROM MRS. SABATELLA FROM ST. JAMES SCHOOL IN MANCHESTER, CT
Mrs. Sabatella 7th & 8th grade students created this amazing work.

BGSU Magazine Spring 2012: Featuring Art With Mr. E
My Alma Mater has featured me in the latest edition of BGSU Magazine. For those of you who do not know what BGSU is....... Bowling Green State University is located in Bowling Green, Ohio (northwest part of the state... just 20 min. south of Toledo, Ohio). It has a population of around 20,000 students, with education being one of its most popular programs. I originally went to BGSU for the Art Education/Art Therapy program, but dropped the art therapy portion within my freshman year after realizing education was my true calling. They magazine contacted me to share my favorite professors during my time at BGSU. It is always "interesting" when people interview you...because sometimes the don't write exactly what was said or how you would say it, but for the most part...its a great article!!

Painted Clay Buildings: 4th Grade
It is TCAP week. I waited for this week to have my second graders paint their clay pots & my forth graders to paint their clay buildings. Our schedule changes & classes are cut to 40 min(usually an hour). 40 min. is just enough time to get this job done!!! I have 8 students painting at a time & the rest are working on their weavings. It is ideal for these terrible standardized testing kind of days!!!

Fast Pace Mixed Media : 1st Grade
We completed these in one hour long class time! Some could use a bit more work, but over all I was thrilled with the fast paced lesson's results. We started by painting a piece of paper with yellow & orange tempera. Pushing that aside to dry they moved on to select a neutral color background page(three different browns, and three different grays to select from). They were asked to use neutral colors to create a pattern for a wall paper effect. They then glued on a piece of black paper for the table. Next they selected a bright colored piece of paper to create the vase. I showed them several styles of vases and how to fold the paper to cut out the shape. They glued around the vase except for the top so they could slip the stems of the flowers into the opening. After that they were able to select a piece of green paper(had about 5 different greens available) to create the stems and leaves. With 10 min. to go...I had them cut out flower shapes from their painted paper. Only two students were unable to finish when all was said & done(but they were not following directions ...and wasted a great deal of time doing what they weren't suppose to).

Mayor's Art Show 2012
Here are all our pieces hanging in the Frist Center.
I totally did not ask her to do model like this...she may have a future on Wheel of Fortune!!
Kendall's collage cat was a hit though...so many people could not believe a kindergarten student created this! On a side note...her grandma taught with my wife & I use to hold Kendall when we'd hang out at Chili's on Friday after school!! One of the many reasons I feel old!! ha ha
Morgan's(another kindergarten student) family was so excited her work was selected! I love to see parents so supportive of the arts!
Alexia(1st grade) made an amazing warm & cool color dino picture!
She is such a fun personality & wise beyond her years!
I selected Benjamin's work much earlier in the year. When I saw it...I knew it had to be in the Mayor's Art Show! Benjamin doesn't get excited about much, but I could tell he was very proud of his work!!
Sade(3rd grader) did this amazing fish! She has grown so much as an artist over the years! That is one of the joys of teaching at the same school for a long time...watching "your kids" grow up! I'm so proud of her!!
Carolina's older sister also made it to the Mayor's Art Show when she was at Tulip Grove. They must have an artistic gene that runs through the family!
This is Mayor Dean...a very very bad picture of Mayor Dean! He has been great for our city..and has been a supporter of the arts!
This was all the kids in attendance up on stage with the Mayor Dean in the middle!
This show represents half of our district...MNPS is too large to have all at once.
This amazing beauty was outside the Frist Center! I don't know how long it has been there or how long it is staying, but WOW!!!
All student images were posted by permission of parents!
DO NOT POST WITHOUT PARENTS PERMISSION!!!!!
