THE TOWER - Chihuly"ing"

So I've had many ideas on how to create the armature for the Chihuly tower!  If you have some ideas you'd like to share...please leave a comment.  I bought chicken wire at the local TSC(after seeing another teacher use chicken wire)...but had to figure out how I was going to make it stand & take shape.  I ended up cutting out circles of cardboard  so that it would hold its shape.  I then wired yard sticks to the end so I could anchor it in the ground.  This has worked out very well.  Like I said...there are many ways you can do this, and I'd love to hear what you've done or are considering doing.

  1. I'm so so excited to see what this looks like! I think I may have to copy this lesson! :-) Have you every thought of submitting this to school arts magazine!? It's so different then the things I normally see in there! love it!

  2. I LOVE the tower idea. We did our Chihuly with chicken wire and pots. This would be more impressive.

  4. So cool! I was following your blog through the school year and now over the summer I've finally started my own. Chihuly has a huge exhibit up here in Boston where I'm from, so I wanted to do something to celebrate him. I did something like this, but to make the tower I used a tomato planter (the circular metal frames) and just wrapped that in chicken wire. So easy but so effective! I only did one so it was a little shorter, but I'm sure you could attach two together. Just thought you'd like the tip :)
